How to Refund Fortnite Skins: Cancel Purchase, Return Tickets and Real-Money Refunds

You refund a Fortnite skin in one of two ways, depending on timing. Within 24 hours of buying it, and before you have used or equipped it in any mode, Cancel Purchase gives your V-Bucks back without using anything up. After that, you can return most item shop purchases for up to 30 days with a Return Ticket, and every account has at most three. Both can be done in the game or on the returns page of the Fortnite website.

Neither route covers everything. Gifts, passes, pass levels and purchases made inside creator islands cannot be refunded this way, and anything you bought with real money goes through the store you paid at, under its rules. The decision tree below shows which route fits your purchase; the rules come from Epic's help articles and the Fortnite Wiki, checked on 10 October 2026.

Which refund route applies

The first question is always what you paid with. V-Bucks purchases are handled inside Fortnite; real-money purchases are handled by whoever took the money. After that it comes down to time and whether you have touched the item.

Decision tree. If you paid real money, the store you paid through decides the refund. If you paid V-Bucks and the purchase was a gift, a pass, pass levels or a creator-island purchase, it is not refundable in Fortnite. Otherwise, if it is under 24 hours old and not used or equipped, use Cancel Purchase with no ticket. If not, and it is within 30 days and you have a Return Ticket, return it with a ticket, and bundles return whole. Otherwise it cannot be returned.

Cancel Purchase: the free undo

Cancel Purchase is the route to use whenever you can, because it costs you nothing. Epic's rule is that you can cancel an item shop purchase made with V-Bucks for 24 hours after buying it, as long as you have not used or equipped it in any game mode. The item leaves your locker and the V-Bucks go back to your balance. You can only cancel a given item once.

In the game, open the item shop, find the item you bought and choose the cancel option on its page. On the web, sign in on the Fortnite website, open the item shop's return and cancel section, and pick the purchase. The catch is the word equipped: putting the skin on in the locker and jumping into a match ends the cancel window early. If you are not sure you want to keep something, decide before you wear it.

Return Tickets: how many you get and when they come back

Once the cancel window has passed, a Return Ticket can undo an eligible purchase for up to 30 days after you bought it. Epic gives every account three. If the item was part of a bundle, the whole bundle has to be returned; you cannot keep the pickaxe and send back the outfit.

The part people miss is how slowly tickets come back. Epic's wording is that once you have used one, you receive another 365 days after the most recent ticket was added to your account, up to a maximum of three. Read that way, tickets return one at a time, a year apart, not all three at once. Some guides, including the Fortnite Wiki, describe each spent ticket coming back 365 days after it was used, which would be quicker; Epic's own wording points to the slower pattern, so plan on that.

Step chart of Return Tickets held. The account starts with 3. It uses one on 10 March 2026 (2 left), one on 1 June 2026 (1 left) and one on 1 August 2026 (0 left). Tickets come back one at a time: 10 March 2027 (1), 9 March 2028 (2) and 9 March 2029 (3).

Used three tickets in one year, and you may wait close to three years to hold three again. That makes a ticket worth more than most single purchases. Save them for mistakes you cannot live with, like a bundle bought for the wrong account or a skin you bought twice in different styles. Spend one only after checking that Cancel Purchase is no longer available.

Real-money purchases

Anything you paid for with real money, including V-Bucks packs themselves, the Fortnite Crew and passes bought for cash, is outside Cancel Purchase and Return Tickets. Epic's help pages say items bought directly with money are not eligible for either route. The refund decision belongs to the store that took the payment.

If you paid through Epic's own checkout on PC, Mac or mobile, the Epic Games Store refund policy applies; Epic's policy page, read on 10 October 2026, says it covers in-game real-money purchases in Fortnite. The same policy says virtual currency, in-game items and subscriptions are usually non-refundable unless the law requires otherwise, and refundable mobile purchases have a two-hour window. EU residents keep their statutory right of withdrawal, though you may be asked to waive it at checkout. If you paid through PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Apple or Google, that store's refund policy decides, and Epic cannot refund it for you.

What can't be refunded

Epic's return article lists the purchases that neither Cancel Purchase nor a Return Ticket will take back. Check this list before you buy anything you are unsure about:

  • All passes, including the Battle Pass and limited-time event passes, and the premium reward tracks.
  • Pass levels, such as Battle Pass tiers bought with V-Bucks.
  • Gifted purchases, in either direction.
  • Level Up Quest Packs.
  • Purchases made inside creator-made islands.
  • Save the World loot llamas and event or weekly items.
  • Anything bought directly with real money (see above).

There is one exception that works in your favour. When Epic pulls an item from sale because something went wrong with it, it has in the past refunded buyers without a ticket. You do not have to request these; when it happens, Epic says so and the V-Bucks come back on their own.

Chargebacks and account bans

Disputing a Fortnite purchase with your bank is the one refund route that can cost you more than it returns. Epic's chargebacks page, as quoted by Aftermath in a November 2024 article, says it removes every item linked to a chargeback from the account, and that after two or more chargebacks the account is blocked from buying anything across Epic's products for up to a year. Epic told the same outlet it once banned accounts outright over chargebacks and has since eased that, partly because some chargebacks were really unwanted purchases that Player Support could have refunded.

So if a purchase was made on your card without your permission, contact Epic Player Support first and secure the account. If you simply regret a real-money purchase, ask the store you paid through. Keep the chargeback for genuine fraud that support will not fix, and expect to lose the linked items when you use it.

Edge cases

  • You equipped it by accident. Cancel Purchase is gone, but a Return Ticket still works inside 30 days if the item is eligible.
  • You bought a bundle and only want part of it back. Not possible; a bundle returns whole or not at all.
  • A gift you received is not wanted. It cannot be refunded by you or by the sender.
  • You want to rebuy a returned item later. You can buy it again whenever it is in the shop, at the shop price that day.

Most returns are avoidable with one habit: wait to equip something new until you are sure, and use the 24-hour cancel window as your trial period. Before you spend at all, check the V-Bucks prices for the pack you need and whether the item is still in the dated shop snapshot. The full rules for buying and returning are summarised in how the Fortnite item shop works.

Frequently asked questions

How many refund tickets do you get in Fortnite?

Three per account at most. Once you use one, you get another 365 days after the most recent ticket was added, so they return one at a time, a year apart.

Can you refund a skin after 30 days?

No. Return Tickets only cover eligible purchases made in the last 30 days, and Cancel Purchase only covers the first 24 hours.

Can you refund a skin you've used?

Not with Cancel Purchase, which ends once the item is used or equipped. A Return Ticket can still return an eligible item within 30 days of purchase.

Can you refund the Battle Pass?

Not in Fortnite. Passes, pass levels and premium reward tracks are excluded from Cancel Purchase and Return Tickets. A pass bought for real money falls under the refund policy of the store you paid.

Can you refund a gifted skin?

No. Gifted purchases are excluded from returns for both the sender and the recipient.
